Dangerous Road

Dangerous Road is an addictive, high-speed motorbike racing game.

Whilst not really a racing game, in that there are no other racers with which to compete against, this fast-action game requires players to speed along busy and dangerous roads with the aim of reaching the end as quick as possible. The challenge is to not only avoid the many obstacles in your path such as traffic cones and road spikes that will slow you down if hit, but to also shoot lorries, trucks, cars and pedestrians off the road as you come up behind them. Players will also need to avoid hitting road-side barriers and central reservations to prevent being thrown from their motorbike. If a player is thrown from their bike, a life is lost.

Some vehicles have a bonus emblem on the roof and by destroying them, players can collect these special rewards. The rewards include alternative weapons such as shotguns, rifles and even bazookas, shields that come in handy when there are many cars and obstacles to avoid, extra lives and fuel which runs out quite quickly.

By pressing the ‘ctrl’ button, players can scroll through their collected weapons. By holding the ‘ctrl’ button, players can then attempt to shoot at other vehicles and pedestrians.

At the end of each level, players are shown their current score and a running total of how many vehicles have been destroyed so far. One of the great things about Dangerous Road is that when completed, if your score is among the Top 10 best scores, you can upload it to the Dangerous Road website where you can view the top scores of thousands of other players worldwide.

The sound effects and music are very basic and can become very mundane after a while, but the music can be switched off using the options section that can be accessed through the title screen. The graphics are also very basic and although gameplay is fast and furious to begin with, it does become extremely monotonous as the scenery and challenges are very repetitive. If old arcade games appeal to you, then this game will certainly not disappoint. However, the constant cycle of the same scenery and the generic appearance of the other vehicles you encounter make this game quite dull after several levels.

The controls are very easy to use, making this game both simple and enjoyable. This is especially good as it means that it can be played by any age group.
